King Amalric had just retired to his dinner - roasted pigeon served with garlic and mushrooms - when an explosion was heard. Indeed - it could be heard throughout the city. Walls shook and windows shattered, evidence of a powerful blast which tore through the southwest part of Midgaard.
With the help of King Regent Moordenaar, Amalric sent volunteers to the area to put out the flames - but the damage was already done. For the blast had been localized within the mage's guild - and reports came that the body of Arch Mage had been pulled out of the rubble. Perhaps it was an experiment gone awry, or perhaps the Arch Mage cast the wrong spell (rumors had been circulating that he was working on a rock swarm spell similar to meteor swarm) but no one could say for certain.
Conscious of what the lack of a mage guild could mean for the power and stability of a city, Amalric asked for word to be sent to Arcana Excelsis, to see if perhaps they might be able to spare a guildmaster of their own. He hoped that they would be able to send someone quickly after hearing the message - so that it might only be a day or two without guild representation in Midgaard. Perhaps it would not be too late... Until then he hoped that adventurers might be able to share what they learned using teaching skills, although he acknowledges that can never replace the wisdom of a guildmaster.
