Rather than creating a sweeping and unrealistic plan for the renewal of the Publicity Track, I have opted to keep it simple and straightforward. The plan is comprised of the follow three pillars: (1) encouraging voting (2) viral marketing and (3) website maintenance.
I am a firm believer that voting is critical to bringing in new players. When searching for new MUDs, players consult MudConnector and TopMudSites. In order to increase voting, I will be re-initiating my "Vote or Die" campaign to help get the ball rolling. Additionally, I will aim to post a note each month with our top voters in order to recognize those showing their support. I would also like to provide trophies/insignia (with no stats) for those finishing in the top three as another incentive, pending that it wouldn't violate voter incentive rules for either site.
As for viral marketing, I think it would be an awesome way to help spread awareness to non-MUDders and MUDders alike. My plan centres around the creation of several flyers that we can host on www.outland.org and that would allow players the chance to print them off and post them in campus computer rooms, libraries, etc... Obviously, there's no indication as to how effective this would be but I think it's definitely different than anything we've utilized before and could be fruitful.
And last but certainly not least, website maintenance. The website is the first point of contact with most prospective and exisiting players and the news is a prominent part of Avatar's homepage. I know this has been my domain for the past year and that at times I have been lax in generating new items but it is my hope that with the help of my fellow Immortals that updates can continue to occur regularly.
