Things may seem overwhelming at first but they will get easier as you play more. Remember, you're not alone, everyone had to learn how to play. Making notes may help. - Riviat
As a result of ongoing discussions with Top Mud Sites (TMS), it was deemed that our individual vote counter served as a "tangible reward" to those voting for Avatar. As a result and with deep regret, we have removed the ability to see individual cumulative votes in order to comply with TMS policies.
In order to somewhat compensate for this change, Xiphoid has been kind enough to implement a cumulative vote counter to track our overall progress as a MUD.
Our apologies to anyone who is inconvenienced by this change.

well, if we have to we have to. i just want to make sure the other muds listed on TMS are being held to the same standards. from the TMS faq it does not seem to me our listing here violated their rules but apparently they thought so. i guess our only way to be sure they are implementing their rules in the same strict fashion with other sites is for us to go and check the other sites ourselves. here's what the TMS rules say (note that Avatar had/has none of those things, and the site listing also constituted none of those, but that's just my opinion):
Can I offer rewards for voting?
You CANNOT offer incentives or rewards to players for voting. That means you cannot give players items, experience, or anything else in return for votes. You cannot display different messages based on whether someone voted or not, or reward a player for voting by not showing messages. You cannot have a system that ‘nags’ a player about voting in response to whether they’ve voted or not unless participation in the system is totally voluntary with no tangible positive or negative effects for a player choosing to use or not use such a system. Such a system must also allow a player to easily opt out of it at any time, also with no positive or negative effect, and it must be off by default.
