Newbie Tip
If everything goes suddenly dark...try using a light. Candles and lanterns are readily available for purchase from Nom, Sol or Jim the Peddler, but it is always best to bring some spares along. - Calidon

I know you've had one of those weeks. Y'know, when nothing seems
to go the way you've planned, and you get an unexpected A+ on a test
you thought you had probably failed, or when the boss automagically
promotes you with a huge raise without any warning. Its not what you
PLANNED afterall, and so it can throw you off stride.

Happens when you play too, doesn't it? At the lease convenient time,
someone asks for your help, you die unexpectedly, your group just
dissolves right before your eyes. Life is like that. Let me share
with you humorist Erma Bombeck's thoughts about living her life
over after she'd been diagnosed with Cancer.... Perspective is a
wonderful thing.

*** IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER *** by Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the
carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room
and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted
to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble
about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a
summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose
before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried
about grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching
television - and more while watching life.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carriedby my...
husband.

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of
pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I
weren't there for the day.

I would never have bought anything just because it was
practical, wouldn't show soil or was guaranteed to last
a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd
have cherished every moment and realized that the
wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life
to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have
said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."

There would have been more "I love you's".. more "I'm
sorry" ... but mostly, given another shot at life, I
would seize every minute...look at it and really see it
... live it... and never give it back.

--In memory of Erma Bombeck who lost her fight with cancer.

     ________________________________

As the hands of the citizens of Avatar "flared with power" , the pray
channel came to life on May 15 when the one hour HOG began at 8:00 p.m.
system time. The requests for aid poured in and the angels joined together
as a cohesive team of professionals to work with the Lords, Ladies, and
Immortals of Avatar to help those who died at the hands of the aggie mobs
who did not appreciate the intrusion of the Avatarians into their world.
Dozens of requests for CRs poured in as the death toll climbed to
astronomical proportions. The corpse list grew to several screens. The
archangels assigned the angels to a number range on the list and, one by
one, the victims were delivered and reunited with their corpses and gear.
As Confetti, I took charge of the pray channel. My job was to reassure
those who were panicking that we had never yet lost a corpse to decay in a
HOG (corpse eaters and stompers are another case entirely). Dozens of
tells went out to reassure those who were nervous or upset. Drowning
victims and the mortally wounded were healed (unfortunately the lag did
claim some victims in these cases) and those who could not be delivered
through our spells were walked to their corpses and gleefully reunited with
their gear.

The Lords, Ladies, and Immortals of Avatar filled a vital role in the
success of the HOGs. There were times when a corpse was in a private
room, a stomper had left no remains but a scattering of gear, or a corpse
was animated and needed to be tracked down and destroyed. In all cases
there were a number of individuals ready to answer the call of the angel
team and help those who fell victim to these unfortunate incidents. Many
times an angel would arrive on the scene to find a Lord, Lady, or Immortal
had already taken control of the situation. A quick hug and the angel was
off to answer the prayer of another because of these acts of kindness.
Hundreds of corpses, dozens of stompings, many animations and several
personal escorts later, the HOG came to an end. The pray channel settled
into a scattering of requests for assistance, the angels and Immortals
shared anecdotes of their experiences and revelled in the fact that, yet
again, no corpses were lost to decay because of the quick and efficient
manner in which the HOG was handled by those who chose to help out during
the event.

The patience of those who died was appreciated and respected by the Angel
staff and we look forward to, once again, helping out when the need arises.
It is hours like these which makes us realize what a vital role we play
here in the land of Avatar. Divine assistance is needed and appreciated at
all times but when one feels hopeless and lost during the heightened
activity of a HOG and sees an angel arrive on the scene to provide
assistance the adrenaline rush on both sides is amazing and not to be
equaled!

The angels of Avatar enjoyed every moment of the HOG and look forward to
many more exciting moments in the skies over Avatar!

[Ed: The Avatar staff does NOT endorse this article for anything other
than entertainment value! In other words, the following recipe would not
only have an awful aftertaste, but it might prove harmful as well (to the
pot, anyway) -- Diz]

So. You like the game. You *love* the game. You play the game until
your eyes feel gritty and sleep overwhelms you, eh? Here's my advice for
getting those EXTRA hours on Avatar!
     - Pour a 16 ounce Jolt Cola into a pot over low heat.
     - Add a cup or two of espresso cofee
     - To this mixture, add 50 sugar cubes
     - Drink and repeat as necessary

VIOLA presto! You are up all night twitching with energy!!!

Nail the robin way up high
To hush away his many lies
Keep the traitor from our door
Stay away! Come no more!
Praise the army praise the king
The traitor will no longer sing.

(whispered)

Robin bring us meat and bread
And stay the demons of the dead
Robin fly high into the night
I'll say nothing of your flight
Robin fly here to your home
The king is dead, the rest is bone.

It was a cold winter's day that Sunday. The temple was filling up
quickly. I noticed as I strode toward the building that fellow church
members were whispering among themselves as they walked to the
temple. As I got closer I saw a man leaning against the wall. He was
almost laying down as if he was asleep. He had on a long and cheap cloak
that was almost in shreds and a felt hat topped his head,
pulled down so you could not see his face. He wore leathern shoes that
looked
30 years old, too small for his feet with holes all over them, his toes
stuck out. I assumed this man was homeless, and asleep, so I walked on
by, through the doors to worship. We all fellowshipped for a few
minutes, and someone brought up the man laying outside. People
snickered and gossiped but no one bothered to ask him to come in,
including me. A few moments later the service began. We all waited for the
priest to take his place and to give us the Word, when the doors to
the church opened.

In came the homeless man walking down the aisle with his head down.
People gasped and whispered and made faces. He made his way down
the aisle and up onto the pulpit he took off his hat and coat. My heart
sank. There stood our pastor...he was the "homeless man." No one
said a word. Our priest rested his hands on the pulpit, and said:

"Folks, I don't think I have to tell you what I am preaching about today."
Then he started singing the words to this song.

"If I can help somebody as I pass along.
If I can cheer somebody with a word or song.
If I can show somebody that he's traveling wrong.
Then my living shall not be in vain."
